Garden Route and Karoo

The Garden Route is renowned for its indigenous forests, flora, wildlife and spectacular scenery. Stretching from Slang River at Heidelberg in the west to the incomparably scenic Tsitsikama Forest and Storms River in the east, the region is bordered in the North by magnificent mountain ranges. White sandy beaches, coves, lakes, lagoons and wide flowing rivers grace the rugged coastline. The coast abounds in marine life and is paradise to water sports enthusiasts. Places of interest include Albertina, with its “old world” atmosphere, George which nestles below the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains and Mossel bay. Not to be missed are the idyllic resorts of Plettenberg Bay, Natures Valley, Wilderness and Knysna.

In stark contrast lies the vast, semi-arid Karoo, with a charm of its own. Here one finds Oudtshoorn with a wealth of treasures including ostrich farms, breathtaking scenery and a 61m waterfall. Just 30km away are the Cango Caves, one of the world’s natural wonders. Beaufort West, the capital of Central Karoo is the gateway to the province. The area is known for its fossils, game, museums, and amazing sunsets.
