Western Cape, Cape Town and West Coast
From the flat semi-arid plains of the Karoo, to the breathtaking Cederberg Mountains, from the wild West Coast, to the expansive winelands and the glorious Garden Route, the Western Cape is quite unique. It is also home to the Mother City, Cape Town, considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Nestling below magnificent Table Mountain, the city beckons visitors to laze on pristine beaches, explore the beautiful country side and its unique flora, to rejoice in its warm days and friendly people. No wonder it is rated one of the top 10 holiday destinations in the world. Close by, in Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek, Wellington and Somerset West, are the magical Cape Winelands, where visitors can sample the fine vintage, explore gracious Cape Dutch Manor houses and enjoy superb cuisine in spectacular surroundings.
Along the West Coast are sweeping stretches of sand, quaint fishing villages and some of the finest line fishing in the world. In rock Lobster season (November onwards), people flock to Doring Bay, Strandfontein and Lambert’s Bay to indulge their passion for this delicacy. In spring, the West Coast area is transformed into a carpet of colourful wild flowers.
Along the Southern coastline is the Overberg region, between Pringle Bay in the west and Witsand in the east, a coastline full of quaint seaside towns. Most famous of these is Hermanus, offering fishing, sailing, golf, fine food and wine, and excellent whale watching.
